Made of lightweight, environmentally friendly and 100 percent recyclable aluminum, VAVA CL0007 are round sunglasses with a top bar and Barberini mineral crystal lenses from VAVA COLLABORATION LABEL. Handmade in Italy. ÀLVARO SIZA (b. 1933) is one of the world’s most decorated architects and a key figure in modern architecture, Álvaro Siza Vieira graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Porto in 1955. Described as a “poetic modernist,” Siza Vieira received the Pritzker Prize in 1992. In the words of the jury, “Like the early modernists, his forms, shaped by light, have a deceptive simplicity; they are honest.” His designs for the headquarters of the Iberê Camargo Foundation in Porto Alegre, Brazil (completed in 2008) earned him a Golden Lion at Venice in 2002. Siza Vieira received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 13th International Architecture Exhibition in 2012. VAVA is very much inspired by architecture. Framed as buildings, VAVA glasses use the face as a landscape. There is a strong interaction between the design elements involved in the architecture and VAVA. Glasses, being a rigid object, must fit perfectly to a face, ultimately trying to become a mechanical part of the body. Siza’s works have always been a great source of inspiration for VAVA. This commitment would be confirmed by the creation of a capsule collection of eyewear. For this occasion, the essential qualities of the models would be synchronized with Alvaro Siza’s experimental ethos.
